FAQ

What is the easiest way to rent a storage unit?  The easiest way is right here on our website.  Click Location | Rent Units, pick your desired location, click "Rent At This Location" and the system will walk you through the steps to rent your unit. Once you have completed the rental process, you will receive an email and/or text message with information on how to access your storage unit. If you would prefer, you can call us to set up an appointment for us to meet at the facility to fill out the paperwork.

I have an account but can't login. What is wrong?  One common issue is that you may have clicked on another location other than where your possessions are stored. For example, if your items are stored in St Croix Falls and you accidentally clicked the "Existing Customer Login" button for Clear Lake, you will not be able to login. If you have selected the correct location but have forgotten your password, you can click the "Forgot your password link" on the login page. You will need the email address that you set up your account with for this. This is the email address where you receive email communications from us. If you have forgotten your username, you can give us a call during normal business hours and we can verify your identity and give you your username. We can't see your password, so we can't give you that but can reset it for you.

How can I avoid late fees?  The obvious answer to this is to pay on time.  With that said, we are all busy and sometimes, life gets away from us and we are left wondering where did the time go?  The best way to avoid late fees is to set up an automatic payment.  You can do this on our website using ACH (checking or savings account) or a credit card. For instructions on how to set up an automatic payment see our blog post.

Most banks will also allow you to set up an automatic payment on their website.

How much will a storage unit hold? This varies by the size of the unit that you rent as well as your ability to pack well. Please refer to our Space Estimator page to give you an idea of how much each size will hold.

Do you have any openings?
Please see our current openings by clicking Locations | Rent Units. Choose which of our locations you would like to rent at and click Rent At This Location. You can then follow the easy steps to rent your storage unit online!  If the size that you are looking for is full, it will say Wait List, you can click on that to add yourself to the wait list. We will contact you when a unit the size you need becomes available. If you are not able to wait for the size you need to be available, you may have to select another size or try one of our other locations.

How much is the Security Deposit? We no longer charge a security deposit but instead charge a non-refundable $40.00 move in fee.

Do you provide a trash receptacle or dumpster?  No, we do not provide a dumpster.  Please take everything with you when you leave and dispose of it responsibly. Please tread lightly and keep our environment clean.  It is the only one we have.

Do you provide the key to the unit? Each new rental gets a free disc lock with the rental. These locks are all brand new never used locks.  We do not reuse locks. When you move out, please take the lock with you.

What do I need to rent a unit? All tenants must be a minimum of 18 years of age. You will be asked some basic contact information as well as your identifiers (name, date of birth, SSN, drivers license number) when filling out your account information.

How long is the rental period? Why pay for 3, 6 or 12 months when you only need 1 or 2 months? We require a 1 calendar month minimum rental period. In other words, if you rent the unit on the 18th of the month, you will be charged the prorated rent for the month you moved in as well as the full months rent for the following month. Our rental agreements are month to month. No long term leases!

What about insurance? Our insurance only covers our buildings. It does not cover your stored goods. We recommend that you to talk to your insurance agent to make sure your property is insured when it is stored.

What type of payment do you accept? Currently we accept check, money orders and all major credit cards. On our website, you can pay monthly or set up automatic monthly payments using your checking/savings account (ACH) or credit card. If you have a debit card, we would prefer that you set that up as a ACH, however, if you would rather use your debit card, you can set it up as a credit card.

Is it okay to store food? No, storing food in a storage unit is never a good plan.  Please keep your food at your home or give it away to family, friends or the local food pantry.

I am planning on vacating my storage unit.  Is there anything I need to do? First, thank you for storing with us. We appreciate your business. In answer to your question, yes, we do request a 30 day notice prior to move out. Also, if you look on the wall of your storage unit, there is a bright colored sign that says "Moving Out?", that will give you additional information on what needs to be done as you vacate your storage unit.

I am an existing customer, how can I rent another unit? If you need additional storage unit at the same location as you currently have a unit, you can just login to your account and click "Rent Unit". The system will walk you through a few easy steps to rent your unit. If you need a unit at a different location than where you currently have a unit, you will need to click Locations | Rent Units and set up a new account at that location. You can use the same username and password if you would like but they will be separate accounts.

I have seen Storage Wars on TV. Will you sell my stored possessions? We only sell the possessions of those who do not pay their rent. Keep your account current and there will be no problems. We recommend an automatic payment plan to avoid late fees and/or the sale of your stored possessions. For instructions on how to set up an automatic payment see our blog post.

I am interested in buying the contents of storage units, do you ever have storage auctions?  Despite our efforts to the contrary, sometimes tenants do not pay their rent and we have to sell their stored items, you can go to our Storage Lien Sales page to see if we currently have any sales going on.

Can you notify me of sales as they come up. All you have to do is contact us or send an email to  rob@storagesolutionssite.com and request to be added to the lien sale mailing list. Every time we have a lien sale at any of our locations we will send you an email notification of the sale. You can cancel at anytime by letting us know you no longer wish to receive notifications.
